About Cream Of Tartar

Cream of Tarter is a natural, fine white powder that is left behind after grape juice has fermented to wine. Cream of Tartar is added to candy and frosting mixtures for a creamier consistency, and to egg whites before beating to improve stability and volume. It is also used as the acid ingredient in some baking powders.
Suggested Use:
Ready to use. Use 1/8 tsp. per egg white to make souffles, meringues, angel food, chiffon cakes, and candy.
Cream of Tartar is also widely used for making playdough in schools (art classes and for chemistry experiments in particular) churches, daycare centers and home kitchens (see recipe below).

Basic Prep:
Ready to use. Use 1/8 tsp. per egg white to make souffles, meringues, angel food, chiffon cakes, and candy.
How to Make Play-Dough
2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 cup Sea Salt, Fine
1 Tablespoon Cream of Tartar
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups cold water
Food coloring
Directions
1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the Flour, Sea Salt, Fine, Cream of Tartar, Vegetable Oil, and water.
2. Cook uncovered over medium heat, about 5 minutes. Stir constantly until the dough is the consistency of mashed potatoes
3. Divide the dough into four-five equal portions.
4. Add 5-7 drops of food coloring to each portion, and (once cooled slightly) knead the color into the dough to distribute it evenly. This is the fun part for kids!
5. Store the play dough in a plastic bag or airtight container.
